Work of art I would like to make

A felted room.

i prepose a room covered completely by a quilt made from felt, with furniture and households items produced with the same material.

The enclosed space constructed from felt symbolises the protective cocoon originally of the mother’s womb and her love and care.
The felted quilt protects one from the cold, isolation, ideas and responsibilities of the external everchanging environment and social expectations. But as it envelops and cocoons one from these things it oppresses needs, wants and desires. One cannot penetrate the the outside world as one cannot be penetrated by it. It is both protective and suffocating.

The repression of oneself cannot be sustained indefinitely. The self must be released, the identity of the self must be in part self-defined. The attempted repression can lead to a kind of madness. The felt and three dimensional properties of the room are associated to the padded cell in the asylum and it’s history, also the history of sexual expression. Surfaces are cushioned to protect oneself from oneself. One’s sexuality.
