Work of art I would like to make

The work I exhibited in my 2010 degree show required the viewer to experience architecture as an attribute, a quality that gives meaning to space. The installed structure was a response to both spatial dynamics, and the surrounding architectural detail of the room. ‘Untitled’ (architectural ceiling piece) is an octagonal 2x1” framework, clad in 6mm MDF, with threaded steel rod and steel plate to provide core strength and assist suspension. The surface is rabbit skin gesso hand made from a traditional recipe, methodically brushed on and smoothed with fine grade sandpaper and satin.

This process will apply to the next piece of work I begin. If given the opportunity to take part in the New Sensations exhibition, I will design and construct a response to the space I am given, creating a new architectural discourse in which the space becomes more than just its base materiality.
