Aine Macken
(32 years old. Born in Ireland. Lives in: Dublin)
NCAD

Based around the future of the image, my recent work has been taking, as a basis, stills from video imagery uploaded on the internet, in particular on social networking websites, and painting from them. I am interested in the validity of contemporary painting, but also in the creation of persona through the internet. Staged imagery and moments of extreme emotion and how they can be captured is also of particular interest to me. I had my first solo show in November 2006 in Monster Truck Gallery, and am about to complete a Masters in Art in the Contemporary World in NCAD. Much of my research has been based in Luce Irigaray, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the dialectics of desire from a Lacanian perspective, pretty stuff, television, boobs, britney spears, stella vine, karen kilimnik, cocks, sparkles, and loooove.

Work of art I would like to make

Considering how human interaction has a such a large focus on the internet, I would be interested to research and experiment with social networking websites. I like that you choose the colour of your background, or what image you believe represents you. I would like to make a work that is reflective of how one sees oneself in relation to creating this persona of a digitised page which is supposed to represent your character. Where will it go? And if, as in recent images I have created (where people have chosen to film themselves masturbating from the shoulders up maintaining that this is an artistic website and not pornography), it can eliminate intimacy or privacy, or what these words can even mean when considering the internet as a basis for human interaction.
