http://www.theopenwest.org.uk

the open west 2013 will tour to two venues. Applications are now invited. The first exhibition will be at the National Trust’s Newark Park, an unusual and atmospheric Tudor hunting lodge set in rural south Gloucestershire which houses an eclectic collection of art and objects within its architecture and is set in a dramatic landscape. The second exhibition will be held in Cheltenham (full venue details to be announced shortly). This area holds a nationally important collection of the Arts & Crafts Movement in Britain. the open west is an annual open competition and exhibition inviting work from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art. Work submitted can include painting, installation, film and sound, textile, photography, ceramics, print, drawing, performance, sculpture, glass, metal and plastics. Continuing an exploration of fine art forms, the selection of work for 2013 will also examine the skills of the contemporary maker and include experimental and digital technologies together with traditional processes. Two distinctly different environments will allow the open west to curate an exhibition of two parts, exploring the crossover of disciplines between fine art and craft; curating work in surprising spaces to create new contextual layers. Up to 40 artists will be included in the open west 2013, each with the possibility of showing more than one work at each venue during the three month exhibition period. 2013 panel - curators Lyn Cluer Coleman and Sarah Goodwin with guest selectors Dr Justin Marshall and Emma Critchley. Four award winners will each be offered £500. the open west 2013 will offer an opportunity for artists to participate in an education programme; an internship; artists’ residencies at Newark Park and at the Meantime project space; workshops and a day of artists in conversation. Artist Seeking Sponsored Exhibition or Publishing House for new Photography/Graphic Book. Photography/Design/Installation

Great Ode Publication - Call for Submissions and Contribution
http://www.greatode@ymail.com

Great Ode is a new publication in the form of an Artist's Book working around the idea of the book as a 'sculpture' to signify a landmark in our times of how we process, view, experience and analyse information. The book will feature a variety of works which reflect upon our changing perceptions of contemporary society and how we are affected by its processes, requirements, how we adapt to its fast-moving cycles and the problems we have with the structure of our society. The idea is to have a glance which is both experimental and subversive, at times satirical, anarchic, or even hopeful. This isn't to be implied in one work, but in the collaboration of varied artworks, visual explorations, essays, notes, critiscms, proposals for alternative living and photographs (by different artists and creators). The book will be predominantly visually based, with strong emphasis on visual content and content which can be expressive and clear in its intention. In terms of visual content this can extend to: photographs, illustrations, mixed media, sculpture, poems, writings/essays theoretical ideas concepts 'diy plans' design transcripts and all manner of ways of communicating a certain idea, critiscm or antagonism towards our current place in the world and sense of place in time. We aim to have works which can propose alternative approaches to society, can expose hidden subcultures and expose uncomfortable truths about our modern world, can approach marginalised groups, and comment on ways in which the contemporary world affects us for better or worse. The idea is to create an alternative idealised future through considering and exposing the realities which affect us most in the current age, to try and deal with those issues through a visual medium. We ask for artists to submit artworks in the forms above which they feel can strongly articulate and illustrate their concerns with contemporary society, or their hopes for alternative living and power/political structures. We are open in the form of the work, as long as it is able to be printed / reproduced in a 2D format in the final book, videos will be welcome for the website when it is launched or the corresponding blog. Deadline: March 31st TO CONTRIBUTE: GREATODE@GMAIL.COM or GREATODE@YMAIL.COM Send an email with attached images or pdf of work you would like to submit, only mac/pc-readable files accepted: PDF, Jpeg, PNG, TIFF Links are ok to send also as examples of your work, ideas, writings, practice. If you would like further information on the concept, visual media styles, or contribution ideas then please email either of the addresses below: For Queries: vasilisa_forbes@hotmail.co.uk or greatode@gmail.com Artists retain all rights to their work but grant Great Ode the right to use their images in the book, and as promotional material with permission from the Artist.

Artangel Open 2013
http://www.artangel.org.uk/open

Open is a £1 million initiative by Artangel and BBC Radio 4 for new site-specific commissions across the UK. It's a call for artists working in any media to share proposals for ground-breaking projects that will transform the UK's cultural landscape. Previous Artangel Open calls have led to some of the most iconic projects of the past decade – Michael Landy’s Break Down, the very public destruction in a department store on Oxford Street of absolutely everything the artist owned; Jeremy Deller's The Battle of Orgreave in South Yorkshire, the re-enactment of a dark day in the conflict between police and colliery workers during the 1984 Miners' Strike; Roger Hiorns's Seizure, the brilliant blue crystal council flat in South London; and Clio Barnard's award-winning film The Arbor shot on the Buttershaw Estate in Bradford. Open proposals are encouraged from UK-based visual artists, filmmakers, writers, composers, theatre makers, choreographers and producers as well as artists working in the digital space. The closing date for 2013 Open submissions is Monday 29 April. Shortlisted artists will have the opportunity to meet and develop their proposals with Open Mentors. A range of influential cultural figures including Andrea Arnold, Felix Barrett, Adam Curtis, Tacita Dean, Ryan Gander, Rachel Whiteread and Penny Woolcock have made themselves available as Open Mentors. In June the first Open commissions will be chosen by a selection panel including James Lingwood and Michael Morris, Tony Phillips, Arts Commissioning Editor at BBC Radio 4, Clio Barnard and Roger Hiorns. They will be announced in June and presented between 2014 and 2015.

Call for Artists: The Roadside Museum
http://www.roadsidemuseum.blogspot.co.uk/

In partnership with Pool Hey Farm (West Lancashire), the Roadside Museum is now inviting submissions from artists who are interested in experimenting with the aging process of their work through biological and chemical decay. Artworks will be buried unprotected in a field at a depth of up to 6 feet, subjected to the elements and developed from the process of interment. The duration of the project will be 12 months from May 2013. Works would need to be in the ground for the entire time whilst the land continues to be farmed. In May 2014, works will be unearthed, documented and sent for analysis by people gathered from a range of professional backgrounds with the additional aim of staging a public exhibition. The analysis and documentation of the artworks and the project itself will be compiled in a limited edition booklet a copy of which each artist will receive. Works would then be returned to artists. Submissions can be of existing work or proposals for new work. Any media will be considered. Please email with details of the work you wish to submit, up to 6 images of previous work and/or a website link. Deadline: 31 March 2013

Call for artists/designers to produce four banners to be exhibited as part of a project titled 'A Total Spectacle' in Winnipeg, Canada
http://www.atomiccentre.net/archives/1198

++Summary++ Seeking artists/designers to create four banners that will be digitally printed in Winnipeg (Canada) for presentation as part of an exhibition titled “A Total Spectacle” opening May 17, 2013. ++Background++ “La dottrina del fascismo” (“The Doctrine of Fascism”), written by Giovanni Gentile in 1932 and attributed to Benito Mussolini in 1933, describes fascism as the harmonization of business and labour in the interest of the State. Appreciating Mussolini's commitment to reduced taxation and union busting, wealthy business owners granted him their support before realizing he aimed to personally control Italy's various industries by means of a dictatorship. As the self-declared undisputed head of state, Mussolini detested bourgeois luxury and ultimately dismissed the authority of business owners as subordinate to his own. Business owners in Germany experienced similar difficulty controlling Adolph Hitler, the dictator they funded as a way to control striking workers by proxy. Through the course of events associated with World War II, Mussolini's Fascism and Hitler's Nazism were dismantled. Around this time, wealthy business owners and other members of the global elite figured something out: why buy social control via individual, charismatic leaders when you can buy the whole system instead? Representing what became known as the Austrian school of Economics, Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises co-organized a meeting in 1947 at Hôtel du Parc, near Vevey, Switzerland, that established a European economic federation called The Mont Pelerin Society. Designed to promote aggressive liberal/anti-socialist ideology through a decentralized network, the Society facilitated the development and funding of think tanks, policy makers, and lobby groups, as well as the grooming of politicians and backing of favourable candidates. Simultaneously, through concentrated ownership of the media producing an increasingly narrow spectrum of discourse, corporatist ideologues have compelled large segments of society into willingly surrender many of the human and environmental rights gained since the end of World War II. Seduce 'em with consumer goods. Distract 'em with vapid entertainment. Control 'em with fear. That is how to harmonize the workers and the state in the interests of business. ++Exhibition concept++ “A Total Spectacle” will be an exhibition of interdisciplinary work by contemporary artists presented with photos, videos, and other items culled from mass culture in a format that takes cues from blockbuster exhibitions throughout history from Mussolini's 1932 “Mostra della rivoluzione fascista” (“Exhibition of the Fascist Revolution”) to contemporary for-profit infotainment exhibitions-in-a-box type productions. Playing humourously on notions of authority, this “homemade” spectacle about spectacle will address everyday neoliberal practices intended to cultivate social control through seduction, diversion, and fear. Since no exhibition about totalitarianism and spectacle would be complete without banners, this project seeks an artist/designer to create a series of four banners that will hang from the ceiling of the exhibition space to frame four sub-topics: power, sex, consumption, and fear. ++Submission requirements and deadline++ Please submit low resolution concept drawings (.eps, .jpg., .pdf, or .tif) for four banners in a mock corporate style to represent each of the following four “values”: power, sex, consumption, and fear. A design concept that references the way corporate values are presented in promotional material such as shareholder reports and/or print advertising is ideal. Any range of colours may be used, but less ink means better affordability; please create an image that makes ample use of white space, especially if you would like your completed banners mailed to you at the end of the exhibition. Submissions should be accompanied by: -- a brief artist statement -- a few examples of past work (i.e. links to projects) Please send submissions to contact@shintai-z.com by Saturday, February 23, 2013. Late submissions will not be considered. The selected artist/designer will be notified within one week, and all others will be notified shortly thereafter. ++Specifications for selected work++ Four banners will be digitally printed at Martha Street Studios (Manitoba Printmakers Association) for presentation as part of the exhibition mentioned above. The banners will hang from the ceiling. The file specifications are as follows: -- One banner per file to represent each of the following “values”: power, sex, consumption, fear -- Any range of colours may be used, but less ink means better affordability; please create an image that makes ample use of white space, especially if you would like your completed banners mailed to you at the end of the exhibition -- Finished dimensions of each banner must be: 36” (91 cm) wide x 72” (182 cm) long -- 360 dpi preferred; 300 dpi acceptable -- .tif or .eps preferred; .jpg acceptable -- print-ready files must be provided by Monday, April 22, 2013 ++Compensation++ The selected artist/designer will receive an exhibition fee exceeding the minimum recommendations set forth by CARFAC Canadian Artists' Representation / Le Front des artistes canadiens for 2013 in the category applying to group shows featuring 6 -10 artists (Category I). The artist fee will be payable in Canadian dollars via electronic means for automatic currency conversion where applicable. The banners will be printed at Martha Street Studios (Manitoba Printmakers Association) in Winnipeg. Every effort will be made to ship the finished work to the artist following the exhibition, budget permitting. Thank you so much! I look forward to your submissions! With all best regards, Milena Placentile, Curator

My name is Rohan Samuel and I am a local London based artist. Currently signed by Debut Contemporary Gallery in Notting Hill I am looking for your company to be involved in my project ‘Bench2Bench’, an artist charity walk for Children with Cancer UK. Feature in a London Exhibition
http://www.photographyandartwork.com/index.html

Over the last 2 years our exhibitions across London and the South East have attracted over 5,000 visitors, received a BBC feature for one of our artists and have been visited by a strong selection of galleries, art collectors, celebrities and journalists. We work hard to deliver and spend all of the funds generated back into showing artwork and generating exposure. We work hard to deliver and help the arts, as such we’re aiming even higher for 2013. As before we’re offering the chance for a single artist, designer and/or photographer the chance to exhibit with us at the next exhibition looking to take place in 2013. If you’d like to submit work to join us then please visit our site for more details. www.photographyandartwork.com “We’re an artist and photographer based collaborative who understand the difficulties and costs in showing your work through exhibition. Our single aim is promoting artwork, artists, photographers and designers.”
