Based on one of the best loved fairy-tales by the Brothers Grimm, balletLorent’s Rapunzel is re-imagined by Liv Lorent through spellbinding contemporary dance.

The premise of Rapunzel is that a baby girl is taken from her parents by a witch to repay a debt, the witch then raises her, but keeps her inprisoned in a tower.  She is eventually saved by a prince who climbs her magically long hair to reach the top of the tower and rescue her.  Everyone remembers the beautiful girl with long hair leads to the fairytale ending where everyone lives happily ever after.

The balletLorent’s production, however, looks at the darkness and drama within the story, set to a score by Murray Gold (Doctor Who) and costumes by Michele Clapton (Game of Thrones), narrated by actress Lesley Sharp (Scott & Bailey, Clocking Off).  This is a version of Rapunzel that uses beautiful set design and costumes to balance the emotional side of this much loved tale with action and adventure.
