Department and information about the department

Our students have an excellent record of progression, from further to higher education, of winning national prizes and awards, of gaining commissioned work and obtaining employment in their chosen careers in Art, Design and Media.

Art, Design and Media, with some 750 students and staff, is a committed and friendly community of learning with good facilities. These facilities enable us to be at the cutting edge of new developments. We provide through-routes from post-school to postgraduate level, offering a balanced and coherent modularised provision across the broad spectrum of subjects encompassed by art, design and media. Modules can be flexible, some can be taken individually or as a group by negotiation.

We have close ties with industry, commerce and the local community. This includes galleries, an arts centre, film and video workshop, concert halls, studios and workshops. We are involved with local schools and other universities, in the UK and abroad, including North America, Spain, Denmark and France. Information For  International Students

Colchester Institute is a large college of further and higher education and offers a wide range of courses to help you with your education and career.

At Colchester Institute we have international students following both higher and further education courses.

Further education courses are taken by students after compulsory school age, i.e. 16 years of age. Many further education qualifications are designed to enable entry to higher education courses, such as honours degrees or foundation degrees.

Students take higher education courses from the age of 18, usually after completing a two year further education course, such as a BTEC National Diploma, or A Levels.

To ensure that you have the best chance of succeeding, we provide English Language classes while you are following your main course of study. This language support is included in the course fee.
