Escuela De Arte Fernando Estevez
Very few teaching institutions in the Canary Islands can boast a centenary of history. The Escuela de Arte Fernando Estevez is one of them.
The school has passed through many different stages since the creation, in 1849, of the Fine Arts Academy in Tenerife which disappeared 20 years later due to economic circumstances. It was the subsequent creation, in 1880, of the Municipal Drawing School that established the foundation for the present-day art school.
In 1963 the official study plan for applied arts and artistic trades was introduced and in 1991 this was updated to LOGSE standards (General Organic Law of the Educational System. Decree 1/1990 of 3 Oct).
Throughout its history the emphasis has been on the human component during the students' artistic-professional development, a fact that overrides all physical, technological, bureaucratic and even prestige factors.
