Hereford College of Arts was first established in the centre of the city in the 1850s as a small art school meeting local needs. It has continued to grow and diversify, opening its doors to a wide range of students both locally, regionally and internationally. Initially well known for its work of exceptional quality in the crafts the college has always excelled in a full range of art and design: illustration, graphic design, fine art and photography, more recently joined at undergraduate level by digital media (graphic & media design, film & animation) and performing arts (drama, dance and music).
The College is now the only specialist art and design college in the heart of England and Welsh Borders. While most such specialist institutions have lost their identity by merging with larger colleges and universities, Hereford has survived and prospered.
