Pontificia Universidad Catolica De Chile-Facultad De Artes

The School of Art at the Universidad Catolica de Chile was founded in May 1959 by initiative of Mr Sergio Larrin Garcia-Moreno and with the academic support of the university of Yale.
Among its foundators were the reknown artists Numersio Antunez and Mario Carreno who began consolidating in the early years, the two main disciplines: painting and engraving.
In the middle 70's the school of arts went through a process of expansion and academic changes.
Today the School of Arts offers courses in different disciplines: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and digital media.
The school of Arts counts with a strong academic staff of 40 lecturers. All of them artists, art historian and well connected to artistic activities at home and abroad.

Our Aims

The aim of the School of Art is to transmit and promote the creation of its artwork by organizin Seminars, conferences and showcases.
 


Department and information about the department

SCHOOL OF ART

The fundamental purpose of the School of Art is to contribute to the development of creative and visual abilities in its students, providing them with the necessary means to facilitate research, experimentation, and conceptual orientation. Thus, it allows them to deal efficiently in the areas of artistic creation, the teaching of art and, in general, in any work related to the Visual Arts with critical judgment, proper theoretical background, and suitable technical-instrumental correctness.

The academic staff is composed of 38 professors, many of whom have studied abroad and have specialized expertise.

RESEARCH IS MAINLY ORIENTED TOWARDS THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

• Creative work with theoretical basis
• Theoretical reflection on creative work problems in visual arts in general
• Studies for the conservation of the national artistic heritage
• Development of methodologies for teaching art

Postgraduate Program of the Department of the Arts


WHAT IS THE MASTER'S PROGRAM IN THE ARTS?
The Master's Program in the Arts is a multidisciplinary program in the arts structured around an initial set of core courses taught by high level academic faculty in which a strong and permanent dialogue with Chilean and international cultural production, particularly that of Latin America, is established.
The Master's program offers specializations in the disciplines of theatre, music and visual arts or the option of a multidisciplinary project that integrates these areas.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM
Within its structure, the program has two work modes that organize its curriculum and grant sufficient flexibility and a multidisciplinary approach. The first is the theoretical mode, understood as the questioning or analysis of an existing object of study that is directed to musicologists or those interested in contemporary theatrical studies. Student Support

El Programa de Educación Continua ofrece dos caminos, a través de los cuales la comunidad puede desarrollar sus aptitudes e inquietudes. Los Cursos de Extensión que con más de cuarenta materias permiten acceder a conocimientos técnicos e instrumentales específicos y al desarrollo de una adecuada capacidad crítica y reflexión teórica. Y el Programa de Diplomados que con 268 horas cronológicas capacitan al alumno para dominar las principales técnicas de un área determinada de las artes.
