Our Aims

The primary aim of the BA (Hons) Fine Art course is to offer you the opportunity to persue a programme of study in Fine Art covering a wide range of practice including Drawing, Painting, Text, Printmaking, Bookarts, Sculpture, Installation, Performance Art, Video Art, Professional Practice with IT and Historical & Critical Studies.

The degrees are oriented towards the career plans of students therefore they offer each individual a valuable and enjoyable step towards their future.

Location and Getting there

Ipswich is the county town of Suffolk and with its metropolitan atmosphere is packed with shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs, all within walking distance of the Ipswich Campus.

The brand new Ipswich Campus is located on the waterfront, situated a few minutes walk from the centre of the town.

London is only just over and hour by train away and there are excellent road, rail and air links to the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond.

Suffolk has a distinctive blend of modern towns, old villages and hamlets, ancient castles and churches, and forest, heath and farmland.
The region has 45 miles of coastline made up of glorious stretches of unspoilt beaches, nature reserves, sandy cliffs and peaceful marshes. The seaside resorts of Felixstowe in the south, Lowestoft in the north and Great Yarmouth just over the Norfolk border, offer all the fun of traditional piers and a great day out for students.

Academic Staff and Description

The staff who teach Fine Art have a wide range of practice and research interests and expertise. They are involved in making and showcasing work nationally and internationally. They are also involved in writing about art.
 


Information For  Undergraduates

The BA (Hons) Fine Art degree covers a range of fine art practice, including drawing, painting, performance and video art, printmaking and sculpture.
Creative and analytical thinking, problem solving, communication and critical judgement are all abilities developed by this degree.

Duration is three years full-time or four and a half to nine years part-time.
 


Information For  International Students

University Campus Suffolk aims to provide a supportive environment to ensure that international students transition to a new culture and education system is as easy as possible.
 


Student Facilities

University Campus Suffolk provides the opportunity for all students to get involved in sport, whether it's something completely new or something the student is already accomplished at.

There is a wide range of sports clubs that students can join through the Students' Union at the Ipswich Campus, including archery, badminton, hockey, netball, trampolining, body conditioning, skiing, kickboxing, basketball and football. Sailing facilities are close by.

The Student Union aims to support and enhamce the educational, social, cultural and recreational activities of the student body. It offers a wide range of services, ranging from academic support and representation, to running the Union shop and bar.

The University Campus Suffolk Student Support team offers a range of information, advice and guidance services for students in Ipswich and across the Learning Network.
The team are committed to offering a free, confidential, impartial and experienced service, which meets the needs of the student community and is on hand to offer one to one advice and guidance. The team conforms to professional standards and is committed to a rapid response to all student enquiries.
(i.e. Childcare, Counselling, Chaplaincy, Disability support, Dyslexia support, Health and wellbeing, advice on Finance, Academic support)
 


Student Life

Ipswich itself offers a superb range of facilities for all students, whether they like socialising in cafes, restaurants and bars with friends, walking through the medieval streets and country parks, or making the most of the multi-screen cinema and leisure complex.
 


Accommodation

For those students seeking accomodation the University Campus Suffolk Accomodation Office will offer advice on finding somwhere suitable to live.
The Accomodation Office will have a list of accredited providers offering a range of student residential accomodation, including dedicated student residentialunits and properties in the private sector. The approved accomodation providers' list will be available to all prospective students and their families, and will only include providers that have fulfilled quality and safety criteria.
 


How To Apply

There are two ways to apply for art and design courses - route A and route B full details are explained on the UCAS website at www.ucas.com

Students wishing to study part-time courses must apply directly to University Campus Suffolk. Students will need to complete their application fornm online at www.ucs.ac.uk

Applicants are expected to show a portfolio as part of the application process.
