Our Aims

Students at the University of Huddersfield remain very satisfied with their experience at the University, the 2006 National Student Survey shows. The University of Huddersfield performed excellently in the 2005 survey, and repeated that performance in 2006 with around 80% of its scores once again at or above the national average.

Department and information about the department

Art and design is probably one of the most exciting and rewarding careers to be involved in. The thrill and enjoyment of being able to create is a very precious gift, which in itself generates an enormous amount of satisfaction.

The large majority of art and design applicants have enjoyed and been stimulated by their subjects since they were children, others discover the joy of designing, painting and making later in life.

Studying art and design at degree level will lead to career opportunities as diverse as being employed as a designer or design manager for a large multi-national company to being self-employed as an artist or designer/maker.

All of these career opportunities have one thing in common, people being paid to enjoy themselves, a rarity these days whilst making an invaluable contribution to the profitability and competitiveness of the company they work for.

The enormous rewards of seeing your designs in production, in retail stores, on television, in publications or your artwork in galleries are achieved by hours of dedicated, enjoyable practical and intellectual study on a degree course.

Student Support

At the University of Huddersfield we recognise that our students are independent adults. However, we appreciate that sometimes, for one reason or another, problems may arise and it is necessary to seek out support.

The Student Support team are experienced in addressing student problems and aim to be as flexible as possible in meeting the needs of individual students. We are available to offer advice, support, and guidance to any student in all aspects of student life.

We act as a point of contact and referral on a whole variety of issues, and can also advise and support staff, enabling them to continue supporting their students within the School.
