Sarah Lawrence

Sarah Lawrence is a coeducational liberal arts college, offering undergraduate as well as graduate degrees. Located just north of New York City on a wooded campus, the College is nationally renowned for its rigorous academic and creative standards. These are fostered by small seminar classes and individual student-faculty tutorials made possible by a very low student-to-faculty ratio of 6-to-1. It is a lively community of students, scholars, and artists offering outstanding programs in the humanities, the natural sciences and mathematics, history and the social sciences, and the creative and performing arts.

The College welcomes as students men and women who display evidence of intellectual curiosity and stamina, concern for others, and the potential for personal growth. We are particularly committed to having our faculty, administration and student body reflect the social, racial and economic diversity that characterizes our society. We believe that education is enhanced by a diverse community, by the vitality of an ongoing dialogue among people with different experiences and beliefs.

Student Life

http://www.slc.edu/index.php?pageID=1442

Campus life at SLC reflects the intellectual, social and personal interests of the entire College community. The freedom to pursue your interests, both academically and socially, makes possible a level of engagement that blurs the line between work and play.

Your academic pursuits integrate seamlessly with and inform your social endeavors...and vice versa. On-campus events regularly include poetry readings and performances, theatre and dance productions, art exhibits, musical performances featuring on-campus musicians as well as local and national performers, dances, bands, films and special events.

Student Testimonials

"Academics and the social life really do mix... It’s hard to tell what’s your social life and what is your actual academic, 'learning time'."

Accommodation

http://www.slc.edu/index.php?pageID=1444

Sarah Lawrence College has quite possibly one of the most interesting arrangements for housing of any college campus. Former private houses, sprawling real-life apartment buildings with actual tenants, cooperative houses, traditional suite-style dormitories, contemporary community-focused dorms and even a converted section of the President's house offer students a living situation comparable to their educational experience: unique, to say the least.

Ninety percent of undergraduate students live on campus in co-ed or single-sex residence halls, small apartments or town houses. Every room has voice mail and an Ethernet connection to the College's computer network. First-Years live in either double or triple rooms. Resident Advisors (RAs) assist and counsel new students and help in the management of their living units.

Some residential areas have special designations geared toward the collective interests of students who reside in those areas, such as quiet housing. The campus has three theme houses: Schmidt House is an Arts co-operative, Brebner is a Multicultural House and Perkins is...  [ Read All ]
