Painting Department:
Students in the Painting Department are encouraged to work with a full and varied range of approaches. The students are expected to go through the phases of research, recognition, experience, and production of original works of art. They are continuously encouraged to develop their own artistic and critical formation. Students have the opportunity to study with teachers of their choice, experiment with materials and develop their individual style.
The educational aim of this program is to equip future artists with an artistic conception and its implementation using a wide range of media. Practical study work is supplemented by aesthetic and art history discussions and aesthetic theories. Students will develop outstanding artistic achievements. Independent artistic work is placed at the foreground of these studies. Students will gain the ability to present intensified artistic creativity with their works.
Visual Communication Design Department:
In a world where communication penetrates every aspect of social life, the department is trying to establish a new educational system to realize new education for future design which enables students to have new philosophy and expression for the 21st Century which might be different from the present ones.
In the department of Visual Communication Design, students can learn how to express un-visible information managing the visible media. And the talent to be required as a designer is to develop sufficient creativity. The curriculum is integrated of a wide range of subjects relating to many kinds of media: Graphics, CG, Videos, Space Design, Web. The most up-dated technology is necessary to understand in managing these media. The curriculum aims to develop students' sensibility, technique, ability of analysis and planning and editing skills.
The subjects offered at the department are composed of four fields of study; Media and Culture, Media and Technology, Media and Design, Visual Communication Design.
Gazi University , is the first state university in Turkey that contains Visual Communication Design Department in Fine Arts Faculty.
