Introduction - University of Plymouth
The city of Plymouth is home to a population of over 20,000 students. The capital of the South West, the city is vibrant and enjoys a superb waterfront location and a reputation for being safe. It caters well for students; boasting an impressive array of pubs, clubs and restaurants, and theatres, galleries and museums. Devon is also a great place to be if you like surfing, diving or any watersports.
In the City you can walk to almost everywhere; the university, situated just five minutes walk from the city centre, is friendly and currently enjoying over £100 million of investment.
We have excellent transport links: convenient air connections to London, the rest of the UK and the Channel Islands; rail links to just about everywhere; and direct ferries to Brittany and Spain.
Arts students are based in the heart of Plymouth, not only on campus but also at the waterfront location the Royal William Yard. On campus locations range from elegant Victorian terraces in Portland Villas to the new state-of-the art Roland Levinsky building and the newly refurbished Scott building. You will enjoy all the facilities of a modern university including large and airy studios and lecture theatres, well equipped workshops and computing facilities, professional photography studios, dark rooms, editing and computer suites and gallery space.
The Roland Levinsky building provides access to new cafes, galleries, cinemas and exhibition areas right on the campus, whilst the Student Union provides additional social space, shops and a newly refurbished restaurant.
You will also be particularly well placed for the extensive library facilities on main campus, and the art galleries both within the University and nearby Plymouth Art Gallery and Museum, whilst the Plymouth Arts Centre, the Barbican Theatre and Theatre Royal are in close proximity.
Peninsula Arts, the University’s own arts organisation, provides an extensive programme of public music and arts events, a literature series, lectures and related cultural activities designed to highlight both the best that the region has to offer as well as featuring wide range of National and International figures.
