| In this view of the water village, we see yet another side of life in this type of village where the streets are canals. This particular painting, in the series, shows a more isolationist view of life in the water village, on a "backstreet" where some houses appear to be totally disconnected from the others. There seem to be no common walkways connecting them to the rest of the town: the only means out of the house is by boat from the little docks by the back doors (pretty inconvenient, if you need a loaf of bread).
