|Buddhist Yantra Cloth. Paint on linen cloth with Gold Leaf.
Yantra Cloths are called 'Pha Yant' in Thai, and usually include Sacred geomeetry designs as well as SAacred Imagery. This however is a Pure Buddhist cloth painting depicting a scene from the life and Enlightenment of the Lord Buddha sakyamuni. This painting depicts the scene where a Naga Deva from the Underworld of Bhodala saw the Merits of the Buddha as he was meditating and aiming for Enlightenment, and as the rains fell down on the Buddha, the Naga King rose up and raised his head over the Buddhas, to shelter him from the onslaught of the rain in his Meditation.
This Painting is one of a series of ten Thai Buddhist Cloth paintings, which were for a State Institution in Thailand. Chatchai Boonkerd is developing a large number of followers of the cloth painting and Sacred Geometry sub-genre of Thai Buddhist Art.
