Art work Description:
The Bohío (cabine) is the Domus par excellence of the island of Cuba. Two façades caught in the act of regarding and recognizing one another: I like the idea of opposing the seafront of Miami and the façade of this humble rural construction. On the one hand, the sky, the sea, the great flagship hotels (and the urban sprawl that hides behind them) and, on the other, the house afloat, the fragile raft. And given that everything exists within the same context, it is as if they were momentarily side by side under a bell jar. However, my construction, the bohío (cabine), is not made to measure itself against the cosmic, the monumental or the titanic and I even consider the possibility that it could be destroyed by the elements in the moment of his exhibition. It is not even an architecture for real people. My construction is conceived to be inhabited by the bodies that were; it is rather the skeleton of an architecture for the souls of the dead. This raft-cum-shack struggled against the currents of Gulf, and was once steered by victims of geography: which is to say, by those shipwrecked by geopolitics.
