Artist: Meek Gichugu
Created On: 1996
Image Medium: oil on canvas
Image Dimensions: 66 x 31cm
Art work Description:
This painting is by a famous Kenyan artist Meek Gichugu whose paintings are collected internationally by private contemporary African art collectors such as Jean Pigozzi, among others. Meek’s paintings from the mid 1990s are a visual feast. They are Dalinesque with a special African touch. Many of his paintings like this one created in 1996 are fascinating assemblies of people, fruits, birds and animals, African huts, water, luscious flowers, vast skies and balls. Although this painting borrows from the surrealistic style, Meek confirms his African identify with his African huts and Kenyan flags.
