An impressive and iconic mid 19th Century French bronze with an exquisite rich brown lightly rubbed and wonderful hand chased surface detail, Signed on naturalistic base and inscribed F. Barbedienne Fondeur. The Origin of the modern Thoroughbred ~ all Thoroughbreds are descended from three Arabian horses imported into England in the 17th century. They were the Godolphin Barb, the Brierley Turk and the Darley Arabian. Barye’s study of the Brierly Turc, entitled ‘Cheval Turc’ has become synonymous with the very best of 19th Century sculpture capturing the power, grace and breeding of this magnificent animal
