Artist: Arpita SINGH
Image Medium: Oil and Acrylic on Canvas
Image Dimensions: 152.5cm x 152.5cm
Art work Description:
The work ‘W for War, W for Wardha’ was inspired by Ghandi’s correspondence with Hitler, urging the German dictator to adopt a more peaceful means of governance. Ghandi had been outspoken on his views on Nazi Germany, condemning what he called Hitler’s “creed of violence”. The work features Gandhi and his wife against a tapestry of letters, warplanes and soldiers. Arpita Singh is one of India’s leading female artists who is represented in various museums and galleries including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
