Artist: Winston Smith
Image Medium: Ltd.-edition Iris fine art print on paper
Image Dimensions: approx. 52cm x 71.1cm
Art work Description:
20.5" x 28" Iris print on Somerset heavyweight archival water color paper, from a special edition of 50, signed & numbered by the artist, Winston Smith. Unmatted/unframed. Originally titled "Idol (In God We Trust, Inc.), 1978 - 1981, Winston first came to infamy way of this hard hitting political shock piece - a "bowling trophy style" Jesus nailed to a cross of dollars that was used for the Dead Kennedys' 1981 album In God We Trust. Inc. The 8-song EP recording, which was subsequently banned in England and condemned by the American Religious Right, landed Smith and the Dead Kennedys a permanent spot in the punk culture "hall of shame". Jello Biafra's impersonation of an over-the-top tele-evangelist that starts of "Moral Majority" is sheer punk comic genius (if you like that sort of thing!)...
