|James Naughton is an award-winning landscape artist who lives and works in the area around Bolton, Lancashire.
James’ dramatic paintings are inspired by an obsession with the emotional responses that light can produce. He has an almost romantic attachment to the British landscape and the sense of freedom it can offer to someone coming from a visually saturated, industrialised society.
Justine Brooks, writer and art critic, has noted that Naughton "is constantly searching, 'to make things that are unknown happen', developing his relationship with his subconcious. Preferring not to rely on previous experience when approaching a new piece of work, he allows the creative moment to occur as a transferral from his unconcious mind to his concious mind.....(in doing so the artist) records the essence of his experience as a meditation on nature."
