|Enteles's work is inspired by nature. Specifically, insects, and the microcosm of the landscapes they inhabit. Using an old shed as a studio, she found it overrun with spiders and observed their web making and ruthless killing techniques. The moths and butterflies are the prey that get trapped in the webs.
The story of the Itsy Bitsy Spider was appealing as a starting point for this series because it turns this notion upside down. The spider is no longer in control but a victim of the environment. The lack of control reflects our current situation regarding the abuse of our environment.
Surface is an important part of this work. The paintings are done on aluminum panels that have a reflective sheen. They change with the light or movement of the viewer, mimicking the ongoing shifts of light in nature. Other pieces are on clear or colored Plexiglas. The industrial surfaces are used to contrast the organic content, and by leaving it partially exposed, add to the language of what paint can achieve on its own. Where the paintings continue off the panels, the sculptures are mixed media.
