Since 1991 Viafarini has been active as a non-profit association for the promotion of contemporary art. It runs an exhibition space and a documentation centre.
The exhibition programme focuses on the presentation of site-specific projects by artists working at international level, as for example Martin Creed, Mona Hatoum, Asta Gröting, Jimmie Durham, Vito Acconci, Rosemarie Trockel, Tobias Rehberger, Maja Bajevic, Marina Abramovic, Mathilde ter Heijne, Katharina Grosse, Nic Hess, Federico Herrero, Claudia & Julia Müller, Hans Op de Beeck, Bjorn Melhus, Runa Islam.
But what it is even more essential, it organises initiatives to promote current art research of young artists in Italy, with no commercial purpose, featuring artists selected from the Careof & Viafarini Archive.
The programme includes curatorial projects, installations, performances and events, as well as workshops, educational activities, and debates on specific issues.
