The Birmingham Watercolour Society

We will welcome artists from the Birmingham Watercolour Society for a stunning exhibition throughout April in the Granary Art Gallery.

Founded in 1907, the society upholds the finest traditions of watercolour painting and promotes excellence through innovation and has international status with a worldwide membership.

All members gain entry into the society by election, and are from wide geographical range. The exhibition in the Granary Art Gallery will show over 60 works from participating members and will be selected by the society’s own committee.

With such a wide variety of different paintings from acclaimed artists the show will offer something to everyone’s taste with some selected works available to buy.

The Birmingham Watercolour Society will make the Granary Art Gallery their home throughout April.

Forthcoming Exhibitions

Saturday 27th April - Monday 1st July 2013 - Peter Walker

International artist Peter Walker ARBS will be exhibiting at the Granary Art Gallery throughout May and June.

An artist who works in both realist and abstract styles, many of Peter's remarkable sculptural pieces are geometric in appearance, whilst exploring the movement and mechanics of people and creatures such as horses and birds.

Peter primarily uses materials such as bronze and corten - a steel alloy with a deep orange 'rust' appearance - to create his sculptures, a selection of which will be on display.

In addition, there will also be three large George Stubbs paintings on display which have been loaned to Weston Park from a private collection.

July 2013 - Penelope Timmis RBSA

The Granary Art Gallery welcomes Penelope Timmis for a Third time for a selling exhibition of her recent and lively paintings. Mainly using acrylics, Penelope is inspired by aminals, landscapes and flowers.

Previous Exhibitions

October 2012 - Stephen Read

London based Stephen Read exhibited his dramatic coastal paintings in the Granary Art Gallery for a selling exhibition throughout October.

Often including figures within his paintings, Stephen creates both the sense of both playfulness and anonymity within dramatic and powerful surroundings, by using washes of oil paint on board. By aiming to connect his work to processes of film making and photography, Stephen cuts and pastes figures and objects from holiday snaps, film and TV to create his unique compositions.

November 2012 - Carole Baker RBSA, Faine Meynell & Mary Kenyon-Slaney

We had a triple show lined up in November for art lovers when we welcome Carole Baker, Mary Kenyon-Slaney and Faine Meynell for a selling exhibition of their recent works.

Carole Baker showed her exciting, bright and bold landscapes featuring scenes from the UK and abroad. Using sketches and photographs as a starting point Carole creates her paintings using different mediums such as acrylics, watercolours and mixed media.

We were delighted to welcome back Mary Kenyon-Slaney and Faine Meynell who last exhibited... [ Read all ]
