Westwood Gallery, NYC

Westwood Gallery NYC is a contemporary art gallery, established in 1995 in SoHo, New York. The gallery represents artist estates from the New York school, as well as contemporary artists working in diverse media, including painting, photography, video, and sculpture. The gallery also develops innovative programs that integrate fine art with diverse projects, such as multi-media exhibitions, film production, new technologies, and other unique applications. In addition to on-site exhibitions, Westwood Gallery NYC has organized and curated several museum-quality exhibitions both in the U.S. and abroad. The gallery program also encompasses art talks, private and corporate art consultation, as well as educational and non-profit collaborations. Estates represented include James Juthstrom (1925-2007), Will Insley (1929-2011), Lazhar Mansouri (1935-1985), Constantin Antonovici (1911-2002), and Boris Lurie (1924-2008). WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC exclusively represents the Estate of James Juthstrom


WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC is pleased to present an exhibition of figurative paintings and drawings by James Juthstrom. For 50 years this reclusive artist dedicated himself solely to the creation of art in his SoHo loft. Even though he lived near a thriving gallery scene and created artwork alongside the camaraderie of New York School artists and Abstract Expressionists, he was reluctant to find representation. The drawings and paintings on view reflect Juthstrom’s intensive exploration into his private inner life as an artist.

The 27 works of art on exhibit provide insight into Juthstrom’s lifelong quest to balance his representational concept with his abstract vision. Trained at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art, he studied life drawing and created an expansive body of work.
