Bochenska Gallery

We showcase the work of the most exciting emerging artists, alongside exhibitions presenting established contemporary masters. Our aim is to create a dialogue between the different approaches and trends on the contemporary art scene, juxtaposing tradition with the avantgarde. In addition to exhibiting graphics, drawing, photography, video and new media, installations and sculpture, the gallery is open to projects in other media that go beyond what is conventionally associated with a gallery space.

The gallery was founded by Klementyna Bocheńska, an art historian who worked for the National Museum in Warsaw for many years and curated and organized numerous national and international exhibitions. Klementyna Bocheńska was engaged in creating grand private and institutional art collections.

In recent years Bochenska Gallery realized over 80 exhibitions with participation of the world famous artists such as Pia Lindman, David Dio, Sakiko Yamao, Michael Rotschild. In group and monographic exhibitions participated the most remarkable Polish artists such as Paweł Althamer, Mirosław Bałka, E... [ Read all ]

“And Summer Was Beautiful That Year... September 11, 2001”

07-21 September 2011
Exhibition opening: 06 September 2011, (Tuesday), 7 pm

The paintings of Wiktor Dyndo apparently show us the Orient that we know: bomb attacks, a permanent war on terror, an ever-present theme of an Arafat shawl pattern or Islamic ornamentation. His works bring associations with Orientalism, a trend in European culture which developed in modern times and reached its peak towards the end of the nineteenth century. Although this association is correct, it would be wrong to think of Dyndo as a continuator of Orientalism.
When we compare the works of the 19th-century Orientalists with the paintings by Dyndo, we can see immediately their contrasting significance. While the Orient in the old-time painting usually appears to be the ancient Arabia Felix, Dyndo's paintings today show us, in the first place, an atmosphere of menace and strangeness. We could say that since the events of September 11 the world has undergone a major transformation and that what we can observe today is this famous clash of civilizations, which is d...
