Artists Represented

The Academy of Art University features BFA and MFA student work from a variety of university departments representing the diverse talents of our emerging artists.

Current Exhibitions

79 Gallery will be presenting the work of Sarupa Siddarth and Aurora Chang as well as some of the work created in the Photography Intensive course. Sidaarth’s work depicts the fragile nature of human existence shaped by the tension between conflicting forces that we encounter every day. Her work pushes the boundaries of traditional rendering to bring the human figure closer to abstraction. Using a loose painterly approach, Chang will be exhibiting a series of cityscapes depicting various scenes of San Francisco. The MFA Photography Intensive class will be presenting the culmination of their experience photographing at the Marin Headlands. The Photography Intensive course is designed around creating a series of photographs while working in the confines of shooting in a single location during a condensed period of time.
WHEN:
August 3rd – August 31st,
2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 5th , 2010
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Forthcoming Exhibitions

79 Gallery will be presenting the work of Samantha Buller, Ramesh Chindam, Martin Aguilar and Michael Kash. Buller’s series of oil paintings exalt mundane everyday objects through her use of repetition, simplicity and color. By focusing on painting objects larger than life, Buller has found the freedom to play with color and dynamic brushstrokes while maintaining neatly aligned compositions in her work. As an Indian American international student, Chindam’s MFA thesis explores the balance and interplay of opposites between Indian and Western culture, focusing on themes of identity and culture through his vibrant portraits. Balancing form, color and composition, Aguilar’s abstract and figurative paintings capture light from his native New Mexico as well as influence from San Francisco. Kash’s series illuminates social, ethical and religious issues present in society through juxtaposition and provocative imagery.

WHEN:
September 1st, 2010- September 30th , 2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
