A Gathering Of The Tribes

The gallery at Tribes mounts a new show every month. Each exhibition embraces different media and themes, from photographs celebrating jazz to high-tech installations evoking dystopia. Artists are chosen by the gallery for their innovative use of materials or treatment of subject, for a vision that grows out of a sense of community, and for artistic excellence. The gallery features mature artists as well as emerging ones, often displaying work that would not be seen in mainstream galleries, such as the small-scale cutting edge works challenging the art establishment.

This past year, Tribes gallery launched eleven visual art exhibitions, including the showcasing of the winners of Tribes’ art contest curated by Robert Storr.

Tribes magazine celebrated the publication of its eleventh issue featuring an in depth interview with Mc Carter fellow Regina Carter.

Art Fairs

This august Tribes celebrated its 13th annual Charlie Parker Festival, “Bird Flew’, featuring a visual arts exhibition, showcasing fifteen emerging, local and international artist, two poetry readings starring five established and emerging poets held in Tribes Gallery and garden spaces, and a series of free concerts featuring local jazz musicians and music from world cultures. This year we were also proud to feature the Billy Bang Quartet as well as Butch Morris’ Chorus of poets as part of our festival schedule.
