Art Metropole specializes in contemporary art in multiple format: artists books, multiples, video, audio, electronic media, and so on. We offer artists' products for sale on our premises and through this web site. We also publish, promote, exhibit and distribute artists' products in various formats.
Art Metropole is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1974 by the artists’ group General Idea.

Exhibitions
We are not primarily an exhibition venue. Our exhibits relate to and support the material offered in our Artist Book and Multiples Shop and reference our past history in contemporary, conceptual works produced in editions by Canadian and international artists and publishers.

As the retrospective on Dan Graham travels to the Whitney Museum in June,
Art Metropole has published a new guide to Graham’s pavilions around the world. Dan Graham Pavilions: A Guide is the first publication to provide comprehensive and direct information on the remote international sites where his public works may be discovered and enjoyed.

Graham’s pavilions are parodies of corporate architecture, moments of psychedelic experience in the urban landscape, shelters for the weather-beaten pedestrian, romantic rendezvous for lovers, photo-ops for tourists, and funhouses for kids. This guide provides photos, locations, and access information for public works across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. It is the product of a research collaboration between Toronto artist and author Josh Thorpe, Toronto artist-run centre Art Metropole, and Dan Graham himself.
