ART MUSINGS

Founded in 1999, Art Musings was one of the first galleries to open in South Bombay's Colaba area, which has since developed into a vibrant gallery district.

Art Musings nurtures a wide spectrum of artistic practices. It exhibits renowned Indian modernists such as F N Souza, S H Raza, Ram Kumar, K G Subramanyan and Jogen Chowdhury. It also shows international artists of Indian location, such as Nalini Malani, Baiju Parthan, Shibu Natesan, Smriti Dixit, Bose Krishnamachari, Jayasri Burman, Reena Kallat, Gopikrishna, Suneel Mamadapur, Paresh Maity, Chittrovanu Mazumdar & Maya Burman. As part of its commitment to the development of the Indian art scene, Art Musings has founded Afterimage, a publishing initiative, and will sustain a series of high-quality art-historical monographs.

Art Musings works with a collector base that is spread across India, Europe and North America.

'ENRAPTURED GAZE'
A solo show by
SAKTI BURMAN


Art Musings, in association with Aicon Gallery, is presenting a solo show by international artist Sakti Burman entitled 'Enraptured Gaze'. It opens at the Jehangir Art Gallery from 14th - 20th January '09. The show then moves to Art Musings gallery from 21st – 31st January '09. This exhibition is part of a traveling show that will then move to Aicon Gallery, New York in early '09. The show features recent works of oil on canvas as well as large watercolor works on paper.

In the words of Lynn Gamwell, (director – Birghamton University Art Museum, New York) "Sakti sees the world in terms of the exquisite patterns he saw as a child in India, and, inspired by Bonnard and Matisse, he focuses on people in moments of ecstatic joy. It is Sakti's own enraptured gaze that gives his work its dreamlike, fantastic aura…By the mid-1960s Sakti had formed his style, which has basically remained the same over the years, becoming richer with his age and experience, as his recent work attests.
