Beaconsfield

Beaconsfield offers a space for artists and audiences to experience high quality (hence ‘beacon’), challenging, new artworks in a wide range (hence ‘field’) of contemporary visual art media through commissions, group exhibitions, performances, publications and events. Set up in 1994 the organisation is still run by its two artist-founder-directors – David Crawforth and Naomi Siderfin - who work collaboratively with the artists they commission from their base in the former Lambeth Ragged School in Vauxhall, central London. The venue retains its historical and architectural character.

IC-98
Arkhipelagos

4 April – 7 June 2014
Wednesday – Saturday, 11am-5pm

Preview: Friday 4 April 6.30-8.30pm

Finnish-duo IC-98 return to Beaconsfield on a grand scale with new hand-drawn animations: Arkhipelagos (Navigating the Tides of Time), 2013 – a three channel video installation - and Arkhipelagos (Ebb), 2013.

This is IC-98’s second exhibition at Beaconsfield following their debut UK show in 2012. Visitors to Beaconsfield’s Arch space were enthralled by the highly detailed pencil-drawn animation, A View from the Other Side, which focussed on the slow passage of time in relation to architectural representation of human endeavour. Arkhipelagos builds on this work, with an elegiac take on planet earth and human mark-making on its surface.

Based in Turku, Finland, IC-98 is Visa Suonpää (b. 1968) and Patrik Söderlund (b. 1974). In 2015, IC-98 will represent Finland in the Venice Biennale.

Station House Opera
Dissolved

6-22 March 2014

A brand-new international production from award-winning performance company Station House Opera.

An installation and performance that uses telematics and live video streaming to dissolve creative public spaces in London and Berlin, bringing people from both cities into dynamic connection. Merged and overlaid, people and objects find they are both one thing and another, sometimes dissolving together to make a third, in a disconcerting, arresting and occasionally hilarious meditation on the instability of culture and identity.

Dissolved is presented for three weeks during March. By day the installation is open for visitors in London and Berlin (Wednesday – Saturday, 11am-5pm) to explore the transformed spaces with their international counterparts. Each evening the installation is brought to life again at 7.30pm when visitors find their place, merging with the audience gathering in Berlin to watch a group of three performers in both locations create a parable for our globalised times.

Dissolved is a collaboration between Station House Opera, Berlin-based artists Florian ... [ Read all ]
