Current Exhibitions

The Island of Many Dreams
May 10 to June 20, 2014
Mia Nelle Drøschler
Opening Friday May 9 , 5 – 7.

Mia Nelle Drøschler has created a new series of photo collages examining the idea of utopia. Throughout time, Utopia has been described as a fictional, geographical location or an island to where you can travel in order to be part of an ideal society . Drøschler now develops this idea from a psychological point of view , questioning whether the idea of Utopia also can be a a result of a longing for something better. As the American psychologist Agnes Balint points out, the idea of Utopia can be compared to dreams, as Utopia often is chaotic, illogical and distorted for the reader / spectator just as dreams can be.

As seen in previous works, Drøschler hereby continues her interest in the subconscious mind visualized through natural motifs. She attempts to resolve the conflicting relationship between dream and reality by creating seemingly illogical scenes and strange creatures through techniques which are rooted in intuition and spontaneity to allow her own subconscious to come to expression.
