BOOM Hawaii

BOOM Hawaii first opened in downtown Honolulu's red light district on South Hotel Street, famous in the 1940's and 50's, for its taxi dance halls, striptease clubs, tattoo parlors and street walkers during the post World War II era. Adjacent to the area was the "Aloha Tower" waterfront at Honolulu Harbor, Chinatown, which was a "liberty town" for Pearl Harbor G.I.'s and also an
"R & R" destination for Vietnam soldiers in the 1960's. Jazz musicians, Hawaiian slack key / steel guitar string-orchestras and swing bands all found creative venues in the colorful red-brick storefronts. Vintage film classics from Hollywood's Golden Age of movies played at The Hawaii Theater. Fragant blossoms from local flower lei vendors filled the air as trade winds blew softly through the quaint neighborhood lanes and backstreet alleys of Old Honolulu.

Fast forward to the 21st Century as the Millenium explodes with the internet and virtual art, BOOM Gallery and BOOM Hawaii continue to exhibit contemporary works of art in California's Bay Area and in Hawaii.
