Borner, Pia-Anna

Located in the very centre of Lucerne, the Pia-Anna Borner gallery has exhibited works by a multitude of central Swiss and international artists during its almost 15-year history.

With an emphasis on modern and contemporary painting and sculpture, the gallery’s programme encompasses a broad spectrum of activities ranging from the presentation of previously unknown young talent to retrospective exhibitions of works by internationally recognised artists.

We are particularly interested in those works, the formal and textual contents of which, reach way beyond the boundaries of our recognisable environment. The works represented by the gallery often exhibit a dialectical interplay between local artistic creation and comprehensive worldly wisdom.

Previous Exhibitions

Our most recent one-man exhibitions presented works by:
Alfred Sidler, whose 50 years of painting displayed an impressive shift from figural expressionism to total abstraction. Sidler’s work is characterised by sensitive observation and reflection. Aldo Walker’s methodological discourse on visual rhetoric led to a unique language of images, which, due to the vectorisation of the drawn line, has retained its actuality many years after its creation. The sculptures of Yves Dana reflect the archaic and familiar imagery of the ancient Mediterranean. His works in stone and bronze are reminders of those common roots shared by the great cultures. In his large-scale landscapes, Maurizio Bottarelli makes painting itself to a topic – seawater engulfing black volcanic sand dissolves into sensual compositions of colour.

Lucerne's Number One Address for Young Contemporary Art
Lucerne, August 12, 2010

The Pia-Anna Borner Gallery will present works by four young artists under its BORNER CONTEMPORARY label during the months of August and September.

Since its inception almost 15 years ago, the Pia-Anna Borner Gallery has been selling and presenting works by national and international artists working in the classical modern style. It has always been a concern of the gallery’s managing director and proprietor Pia-Anna Borner to create a platform for young artists to showcase their high quality works in the Lucerne region.
The first four artists to benefit from this new platform are Michael Goodward, Tom Huber, Nicole Kaestli and David KĂĽmin.

Nicole Kaestli's sculptural works include a myriad of bellybuttons cast in resin to create a walk-on floor installation - a sensual yet moving investigation of space and corporeality. Tom Huber's drawings capture and preserve ephemeral thoughts with quick, skillful strokes. Avoiding all nostalgic clichès, David Kümin observes and documents the decay of disused industrial buil...
