"Bread & Water"Exhibition
In this collection of paintings, Farid Fadel shares with his audience his ongoing search for beauty in the simple things of life, air, bread, and water. Landscapes of rural life in Egypt will feature the Nile and the rich soil flanking its riverbanks. If Egypt is the gift of the Nile, then the Egyptians are the gifts of Egypt to the world. Nevertheless, for our country to take off after the revolution, it needs to produce its wheat and bread. A whole section of the exhibition traces the process of bread making from the sewing of the seeds, till the joy of tasting hot bread, fresh from the oven. On the other hand, to water our land, we need to pay special attention to our water sources. Ancient Egyptians are known to have appreciated the importance of guarding the Nile against pollution. It’s high time we do the same. Though many paintings feature the Nile and its branches, yet a whole section is dedicated to our seashores and salt-water fishing in Alexandria and elsewhere.
