China Print Art Gallery

China Print Art Gallery (CPAG), located in 798 art district in Beijing, focuses on promoting original fine art prints since 2004. As founder of Beijing’s New Year Fine Art Print Festival since 2008, CPAG works closely with local galleries, fine art academies and international institutions including America Print Alliance, Central Academy of Fine Arts etc., making the event a highly anticipated annual celebration of printmaking. So far, more than 300 artists’ works have been exhibited; thousands of students, art lovers have tried their hands in the workshops and seminars. The festivals have been reported by mainstream media like China Central Television, China Daily etc., effectively promoting the awareness & collection of printmaking in China.

With its curatorial expertise and rich resources in Chinese printmaking, CPAG also contributes to the studies on fine art prints, supporting major exhibitions in the Museum of Michigan University, USA (2011) and Hua museum in China (2009).

Huang Kai is hopelessly lost in his obsession with the hutongs, those alleyways left over from the Chinese cities of old. In his studio, we saw the various alley signs he has "picked up" (read: stolen) over the years: #46 Carpet Hutong, #54 East Boulevard, #173-1 Porcelain Lane… These old rusty metal signs are about the size of a snuff box, red or blue. You can almost imagine Huang Kai's scrawny frame hovering about these deserted alleys, stealthily scurrying to and fro. He even once lugged a street sign as tall as a man back to his house in the middle of the night, worrying all the way that he would be stopped by a policeman. If the sign in your alley goes missing, you might want to ask Huang Kai if he's ever stopped by.

The 2008 Beijing 29th Olympiad is a grand cultural occasion for China as an economic and political power. The participation of China, Canada, South Korea and the United States and in the international print exhibition One World is a reflection of the Olympic values of promoting international exchange and cultural diversity. It will be held at the Amelie Art Gallery in Beijing from July 12th to August 14th, 2008. Twelve highly representative artists each from China, Canada, the United States and South Korea will shine together for the first time here at 798, a center for the arts in China and Asia as a whole. The ancient and highly refined printmaking art form links these people from different nations, cultures and belief systems to join in the glory of the 2008 Olympic Games!
