Edgar Modern Fine Art

Edgar Modern Fine Art opened ten years ago in September 2003 in a renovated vintage wine store in the centre of the historic city of Bath. Initially focusing on works from Cornwall and Scotland, the gallery’s emphasis has always centred on high quality and painterly art. Since opening, the scope and reputation of Edgar Modern has expanded enabling the gallery to now feature work from all over the UK and Europe. With an exhibition programme that promotes both well-established artists and up-and-coming young talents, the gallery is looking forward to an exciting year in 2013.

loak and Dagger 24/11/08 - 10/12/08

Group Show with work by Jesse Leroy Smith, Henrick Simonsen, James McNaught, Dominic Hills, Margery Clarke, Nick Cheeseman, Peter Arscott.

Cloak and Dagger is a term rich with emotive implications. Now the title of Edgar Modern’s winter exhibition, viewers can expect a dark and compelling feast for eyes and minds.

The works in this Cloak and Dagger show all invoke suspicions of concealment and subterfuge. The paintings themselves are united by a surface beauty, seen in their rich use of colour, texture and form. This appeal is balanced however by a darkness difficult to define....
