Galeria Posibila

Founded in Mars 2003 by Matei Caltia in Bucharest / Romania, Galeria Posibila started with a small but very enthusiastic team.
Dealing both with artists and collectors, trying to make room for new representations of art on the Romanian art scene, the gallery is actively supporting young artists to produce and exhibit their works. Printing catalogues that overview the local visual art scene or that focuses on one particular artist, exhibiting contemporary Romanian artists in our country and abroad (at galleries and art fairs) help improve the local awareness on artists and art itself.

Galeria Posibila is running a program of exhibitions and events every two months and 3 to 4 exhibitions in other spaces / cities. Our major purpose is to develop a specific cultural context into which young artists, major projects and events, collectors and art lovers may find the most adequate way to communicate.

The gallery is mainly focused on painting and photography exhibitions, but also makes room for video art starting from last year.
The gallery portfolio contains numerous young Romanian artists tha... [ Read all ]

Artists Represented

Nicu Ilfoveanu
Whereas for Bernd and Hilla Becher industrial buildings meant anonymous sculpture, for Nicu Ilfoveanu they mean painting. “The antique ruins” of the 18-th century romantic imaginary represent today’s ex-symbols of forced industrialism. Images that remind of Lumiere brothers’ auto chrome are achieved by Ilfoveanu through a special though laborious expedient merging techniques from analogue to digital and devices from rudimentary to modern.
Steam punk is meant to be the generic name of a concept including the old-new dichotomy. The term – used by the young critic Stefan Tiron – defines, in perhaps the most poetic way, the contemporary search through “the disorder” of the past defining so well the parents of the post industrialism neoromanticism above mentioned.

Roman Tolici
Roman Tolici advances in the zone of fantastic realism, with accents of anecdote. The exhibitions “Phantasmagoria” and “Here and Now” bring forward an artist willing to assume controversies with religion and society.
In “Recent drawings” things seem quieter, representing a series of autobiographical drawings made by... [ Read all ]

Press Releases

Near Morocco, in the spring of 1996, two Romanian container-travellers are thrown over board by a Philippine crew at the orders of their Taiwanese naval officers. A third container-traveller was found and hidden on board by one of the crew members called Rodolfo Miguel. A few days later, once they reached the Canadian port Halifax, the Philippine crew hand the Romanian container-traveller over to the authorities, making the officers’ criminal deed public.

In 1997, TVR / Channel 1 was the only television station which produced and broadcasted a documentary on this subject (producer Mrs. Lucia Hossu).
TVR Cultural is a partner of the Possible Gallery for this project.

-------------------
The project "Travel Guide" was presented for the first time in the IDEA magazine (no. 21 / 2005) and participated in Küba: Journey against the current – an initiative of the contemporary art foundation Thyssen-Bornemisza (Vienna, Austria) from last year, which involved artists, curators, and journalists from the countries with access to the Danube. Within this European route, Romania was represented by Matei Bejenaru and his project.
