"LANDSCAPE OF FACE"
- a solo exhibition, by SUN Yao

SUN Yao, in recent years, has been focus on exploring the relationship between reality which one notices & reality which one realizes. SUN Yao believes that in this information technology era, we are so used to equalizing the reality of nature to some kind of virtual reality generated by certain visual media. Born in the ‘70s & ‘80s, sixteen young artists from Shanghai & Hangzhou will participate in “My Private Idaho” in the media of painting, photography, sculpture & video.

Influenced by its South-Eastern tradition of culture, art & literature, these young artists are sensitive to today’s change in politics, economy & social structures. From each everyone’s own individual point of view, they raise questions, debate on problems, explore possibilities. Without the typical “big face” or political pop, they bring art of their time to us – letting us have the opportunity to see another side of the Chinese contemporary art scene.
