Globe Gallery - Hub

Globe Gallery is an independent contemporary art gallery showcasing the work of regional, national and international artists.

Founded by the current director Rashida Davison in May 1995, it quickly became recognised as one of the most exciting new contemporary art galleries in the North East of England. Currently the Gallery operates over two venues; Globe Hub, our initial venue in North Shields and the three years old Globe City in the heart of Newcastle.

The Gallery’s two venues provide a welcoming, informative, challenging and accessible dialogue between artist, artwork and audience. Globe Gallery is committed to building and maintaining audiences through exhibitions, events, and opportunities to participate in projects.

IAN CALE, Signs of Conflict

‘Signs of Conflict’ is an ongoing project that has involved Yorkshire-based artist Ian Cale spending a significant amount of time working in and around Berlin and other locations in East Germany including Dresden and Leipzig. The work meticulously records the last vestiges of war in former East Germany; paintings, photographs and drawings not only consist a record of the 20th century but depict the last vestiges of war in former East Germany. Cale’s work pulls together the strands of a disappearing era. He explores discarded places and gathers forgotten objects to evoke the moments that history books have overlooked.
