John Carroll Doyle Art Gallery

The John C. Doyle Art Gallery is located in historic Charleston, South Carolina on famous Church Street downtown, which is in the heart of the French Quarter district. John was the first to establish an art gallery on Broad street 20 years ago, a street now commonly known as 'Gallery Row' that used to be mostly inhabited law offices because of the nearby courthouse. Many others have followed in his wise footsteps since and now Broad Street is every visiting art hunters destination. While Doyle's work is shown elsewhere around the country in shows along the way, his own gallery, which features his work, as well as the art of native Charlestonian Margaret Petterson, is the main location where you can view his many masterpieces, as well as his high quality reproductions.

Artists Represented

John C. Doyle is a very famous Charleston artist. Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, John has made fine art his profession for the last forty years. Self-taught as a painter, he paid his dues as a commercial illustrator in the early seventies before making the leap to full-time work as a fine artist. In those early years, Doyle was commissioned by emerging restaurants and night clubs to paint canvases for their now familiar Charleston bars and dining rooms. He is also featured in clubs around the country, for example he was commissioned to paint all the stunning blues musicians that decorate the walls of the famous Chicago blues bar, Blue Chicago. He has also created paintings for numerous national magazines and advertisement campaigns, and continues to paint blues musicians and depict the local African-American population with a warmth and compassion inherent to their culture. Collectors in the U.S., Japan, Australia, and Europe have now added Doyle paintings to their walls.
