Opening Doors
September 2011

K. Saari Gallery is proud to host Opening Doors new work by Boulder artist Will Day. There will be a reception for the artist Friday, September 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. The show will feature over eight new paintings by Day.

Unlike traditional painting, Day works with his canvases on the floor so that he can rotate and apply materials from different vantage points. He has a disciplined approach to each painting with the goal of producing original pieces that are spontaneous and resplendent. ‚ÄúTypically, you will find my paintings are largely meant to juxtapose different colors and surfaces within a variety of formations. My ultimate goal is to fuse three or four colors in each painting in order to project a strong energy to the viewer. While all the paintings are abstract, I try to create numerous shapes and forms that are visible. Several of the paintings depict forms of nature, such as flowers or landscapes,‚ÄĚ he explains.

Will Day has a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, as well as receiving a Masters degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. ... [ Read all ]

CARRIE MARILL and MATTHEW MOORE as a part of the CO Art Ranch

Opening Reception Friday, May 2 from 5 -8 pm

Carrie Marill was born in 1976 in San Francisco, CA. Marill's gouache drawings and installations are the culmination of her art practice and scientific investigation, which capture unique moments of beauty and discovery. With an interest in field research, theoretical physics and evolutionary biology, Marill has developed new ways of seeing the interconnectedness of matter, especially as it is manifested in ecological systems. At the heart of her work is the continuous human struggle to reconcile the tensions between the natural world, art, science and lived experience. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States in New York, California, Seattle, Miami, Texas, and Arizona. Recent critical acclaim for her solo show Newfoundland in Los Angeles, and A Big Small Town in Scottsdale, have brought new attention to her work. She is the recipient of several awards including The Charles Baskerville Painting Award, 2004, The Contemporary Forum Artist Grant, 2005 and a recent nominee for ... [ Read all ]
