Kalfayan Galleries were established in Thessaloniki in 1995 by the brothers Arsen and Roupen Kalfayan. From the onset the gallery was committed to dynamically promoting the work of contemporary Greek artists.
In 2000 the gallery expanded by opening a second space in Kolonaki, the lively commercial center of Athens, in its continued efforts to present the work of innovative Greek artists such as Tassos Pavlopoulos, Lampros Psyrrakis, Stratos Kalafatis, Miltos Manetas, Edouard Sacaillan, Anna Maria Tsakali, Apsotolos Georgeou, and, among many others, the Greek-born artists Stephen Antonakos and Konstantin Kakanias who live and work in the United States.
When, in 2007 this space was converted into a Project Space where emerging talents are showcased, the main gallery relocated to its current premises, continuing to maintain its high profile in Kolonaki.
Since 2003 the gallery has also been actively interested in introducing internationally acclaimed artists to the Greek public. It has presented the controversial photographic work of Andres Serrano in collaboration with the Film Festival...
