Mazzoleni Galleria D'Arte

Mazzoleni Modern Art Gallery, once known as Nuova Gissi Gallery, since the 1950 is one of the most important and prestigious art gallery in Europe.
In 1986, the gallery was taken over by Giovanni Mazzoleni, who manages it with his two sons: Davide and Luigi.
The Mazzoleni Art Gallery is maintaining continuity with the Twentieth Century painting tradition, but carefully pursuing and developing contemporary themes.
The “History of Art” took place in the gallery’s exhibition rooms: Picasso, Chagall, Dalí, Magritte, Van Gogh and many other Masters of Art.

Situated in the 18th Century building Palazzo Panizza on three floors each one still with their original Frescos which were once part of the adjoining Alfieri Theatre. Recently an extra space has been added which is dedicated Contemporary Graphics.

Having hosted a series of retrospective exhibitions on the great masters of the 1900s, the Mazzoleni Gallery of Modern Art now proposes an extensive collective exhibition which focuses on the leaders of the long and fascinating season of Art Informel. This fundamental and diverse trend, which emerged just after the Second World War, dominated the international art scene, particularly during the 1950s, and subsequently underwent extremely interesting mutations, especially in the evolving experimentation of its greatest exponents who became “classics”, as well as in its renewed forms (which perhaps fall under different categories), present in the work of artists of later generations, up to the present day.
The tragic events of the war gave rise to profound changes in the world of art, amongst other things. A new consciousness of reality emerged, where every objective certainty collapsed and where a sense of historic continuity was broken.
