Proprietor Mary Mcbride launched the Mcbride Gallery in the centre of Killarney, Ireland, in 2006. She had collected art for many years.

Mary's vision is that the Mcbride Gallery exhibits Irish artists who have achieved innovation and excellence, such as formal education, exhibitions in noted high-art spaces, critical acclaim from collectors, critics and their peers.

Gallery Manager Joanne McCarthy handles sales and gallery direction, with a background in Fine Art as her BA, and her more recent MA History of Art & Architecture.

The Mcbride Gallery seeks out contemporary living Irish artists who are innovative in their practice.

Although his work is not startlingly unconventional or rebellious, either in subject matter or handling, it startles nonetheless. It might be said to belong in the tradition of naive painting, but that definition usually presumes a lack of sophistication and McSweeney is the opposite of unsophisticated – he is, all to the contrary, a most learned artist. He taught me, for instance, how to look at the work of Frans Hals with a fresh eye.
