My Name's Lolita Art

My Name’s Lolita Art opened to the public in the city of Valencia (Spain) en 1988 and ever since then has maintained an non-conforming attitude toward the mainstream Spanish artistic panorama.
In the late 1980’s, “Official contemporary art” in Spain was still heavily influenced by the informalist aesthetic that had emerged in the mid-1960’s. From our point of view, this artistic outlook was a thing of the past. The gallery had the feeling that it was time to turn to a new painting, to reflect upon and bring back some of the concepts that had been set aside, from both European and American masters of the 1940’s.
A group of artists came about in this way who started to work to create a new aesthetic that surprised the critics in the early 1990’s. This provocative attitude was the inspiration for the name “Lolita” for the gallery, in clear reference to the well-known novel by Nabokov. Galería My Name’s Lolita Art continued to grow and in 1996 opened a second space, in Madrid.
