Oval House Cafe Gallery

Since 2001, in response to a growing number of requests from local artists to show their work here, our large café space has been formally known as the Café Gallery and we host a programme of exhibitions from October to May, with a different artist each month. So far 48 artists/groups have shown work. The exhibitions are very well received by our audiences as our visitor’s book and recent surveys show.

Current Exhibitions

Layout by So-Ha Au
Tuesday 30th January 2007 - Saturday 3rd March 2007 3.00PM - 10.00PM
So-Ha Au researches the themes of mapping memories and the layering of time. She has previously used diagrams or symbols such as floor-plans, mazes and genealogy trees to look at the context of time and to suggest another voice within the telling of ‘his-story’.

Currently she is using diagrams of dressmaking patterns and markings; to look at the interior space occupied by the clothed body. Deconstructing the shapes, like displaced limbs. Reconstructing them again, almost as ‘flat plans’ for referencing an unoccupied, internal space of the absent and displaced.

Forthcoming Exhibitions

PUNKTURE-2, an exhibition of new abstract paintings on canvas, paper, board and drum skins by Philip Barker, aka philphuture: artist, composer and anarcho-punk drummer (Lack of Knowledge, The Stratford Mercenaries, Buzzcocks).
This invigorating and energetic exhibition demonstrates a sumptuous use of colour and texture, inspired by punk ideology, football fanaticism and a gritty urban-London upbringing.
