Thomas Paul Fine Art to open “Color”, an exhibition of recent
paintings by New York artist, Margaret Bowland on January 23,
2010

On January 23rd, 2010, Thomas Paul Fine Art will initiate its second year of operation of the gallery at 7270 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles with “Color”, the paintings of Margaret Bowland. This is Bowland’s first one-man show at the gallery and her first on the West Coast. Bowland, an adjunct faculty member of the New York Academy of Art and resident of Brooklyn, New York, states that her work, “…is about beauty—what it means to be beautiful and what significance the idea has in the twentyfirst
century in the world of art.” “The need to be beautiful fuels one of the largest and most ruthless industries in our world.”

In this show, “Color”, Bowland explores the need we have to “whiten”. Every culture on the face of the earth has -- to whiten. The Japanese were whitening Geishas at the same time African tribes were painting ash on initiates in their holiest ceremonies.
