Current Exhibitions

Gary Goodman
12 March – 12 April

Gary Goodman is an established artist with an impressive list of advocates for his work. Work created from his shed at the end of a Sussex garden. He will be exhibiting at the Weekend Gallery from 12 March to 12 April. He paints images of resounding directness that confront and engage. The candor we are presented with can initially feel a little uncomfortable, but, as commented on by Prof Norbert Lynton, ‘Far from brutal, Goodman’s way of painting is highly poetic’.

Submission Policy

We do not see artists making unsolicited calls to the gallery. If you wish to let us know about your work you should, in the first instance, write or email Jane Brumfield or James Hibberd. Include a brief statement
about your work and few images. Please do not send large image files by email. Either reduce the size of your images or provide a link to a website in the body of your email, or send images on disc.

We programme featured artists a year ahead. Although we include abstract works in our printmaking section, we favour figurative artists in these programmed exhibitions.

There is childlike perspective to the work that sees everything without judgement or prejudice and so has innocence and humanity. Foreground figures are unbothered by artistic self-consciousness, ego and politeness.

‘Gary Goodman is not trying to impress anyone with his art
Gary Goodman is merely saying hello with some drawings’
Billy Childish

Gary Goodman is simply saying ‘hello’ to the world as it passes him by. This produces work of intense human understanding that belongs to a lineage of artists that include Jean Dubuffet, Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch - and echoes th... [ Read all ]
